Brain-washing...

Posted by Merv on 11:35 PM
I notched this plan of mine to do something really wicked today. After a day of planning, I decided to put it into action.

The plan: to brain wash MommaMerv.
Why? So she can be less naggy and more open to new ideas and new way of lifestyle.
How: Took her out to go grocery shopping and to buy new items for her daily needs.

Seriously, takes a 'happy' son to bring momma out to shop! Useless to get my other siblings to do so. Off we went for breakfast, and head down to Petaling Street and Pudu market. . . Yes. Merv and Momma Merv doing shopping at 2 old wet markets... And along the way, I started the 'brain-washing'...

It is a tedious task to brain wash someone who is above 60 years old. Repeating the same words every 2 minutes, while she gets distracted with the latest bargains and prices. And hauling 50 kgs of groceries under the sweltering heat ain't fun either.. But the hard work and constant yakking paid off... She called this evening to say thanks and it's ok if I can't come back for dinners during week days, she understood that I have work to do or I am engaged in client dinners... Oh! What.A.Feeling! I hope she will do the same for my brothers too!!!!

Next brainwashing program: Next weekend, taking her to go to Midvalley and 'update' her wardrobe so she can meet new people, enroll her into a charity organization so she can keep herself busy and make new friends.. (oh! yes.. tai chi and qi gong classes too!)

Hehehehe... I am WICKED!

"ICE-CREAM 4 U CHARITY CONCERT" - HK DIVA SANDY LAM PERFORMING!!!
The idea for the ‘Ice-Cream 4 U Charity Concert’ originated from both Lee Sinje and Yi Jet Qi. Both the artistes had an unforgettable experience of watching a video clip on YouTube that showed the smile children had on their faces while merely just eating ice-cream. The simple innocent joy and the genuine sound of children's laughter touched them. Hence that is how the idea of having a Concert to benefit children homes and giving ice-cream to these underprivileged / handicap children / orphans to put a smile on their faces came about!
Joining hands and coming together for the very 1st time in the name of charity, love and for a worthy cause, the `never-been-seen-before’ impressive artistes line-up includes Lee Sinje, Yi Jet Qi, Fish Leong, Ah Niu, Nicholas Teo, Kit Teo, Manhand, Dave Pei Jie and Kah Jun with Taiwanese singer Valen Hsu as Guest Artiste. KK Wong (of 988 K6 duo) and Jiang Pei Pei will be hosting the Concert.
All donations and funds raised will be in aid of PUSAT PENJAGAAN KANAK-KANAK CACAT TAMAN MEGAH (PPKKCTM), which runs a Home for the disabled and the underprivileged. (http://www.ppkkctm.org/). All proceeds will be used towards the building and expansion of the Home.
Any donation / contribution from the public are most welcomed and can be banked in to RHB Bank (Account Number : 21220000054055). All cheques are to be made payable to: “PUSAT PENJAGAAN KANAK-KANAK CACAT TAMAN MEGAH IC4U”.
There are 138 children of all races living at the Home, ranging in age from 7 months to 55 years old and coming from all over Peninsular Malaysia. About a 100 of these children are disabled with various disabilities such as Down syndrome, autism, cerebral palsy, global delay, muscular dystrophy, dwarfism, apeth syndrome, neunan syndrome, hyper activity, physical challenges, intellectual disabilities as well as speech, audio and visual impairments. The rest are normal children who come from broken, abused or single parent background. 67 are school going children; of these 25 are normal children and goes to normal schools, one is in nursery while the rest are in a special school.
Although the Home is doing yeoman service, this decentralized system of housing its residents in different buildings is not in the best interest of the residents and has caused other difficulties for the administration. In January 2009, the Home fully settled the deal for a piece of land to build a one-stop centre projected to cost RM 5.5 million. The Home currently has RM1.5 million raised to put towards this project with RM4 million left to be raised so financial assistance is needed to remedy this pressing issue.
Needless to say, PPKKCTM do not possess the financial strength to settle this problem alone. Therefore, they have launched an all-out fund-raising drive and welcome any form of assistance from kind hearted souls.
Charity and Music undoubtedly go hand in hand for we believe that the power of music is universal and cuts across all barriers. We hope that everyone can join us for this charitable cause while being entertained. Come and have a great fun-filled night with your family and friends at the Concert!! A Charity Concert not to be missed!!
LATEST NEWS!! HONG KONG DIVA SANDY LAM WILL BE PERFORMING AT THE CONCERT TOO!!
With Sandy performing as well, don't miss the chance of being entertained by an impressive list of artistes which includes Fish Leong, Lee Sinje, Yi Jet Qi, Nicholas Teo, Valen Hsu, Manhand and many others...

Mid Autumn... carrying on the tradition without PapaMerv

Posted by Merv on 10:40 AM

It's been a week now since PapaMerv left. Yesterday was Mid Autumn, a time to enjoy the Moon with family and have moon cakes and other savories, We didn't celebrate, it was just a normal dinner and we're all seated in our usual seats and we have left a pair of chopsticks, a bowl and a soup spoon for PapaMerv. It's rather strange feeling. My two nieces were oblivious to the solemn moment as they helped themselves with the food on the table. MommaMerv was busy as usual, dishing out veges and other food as she scurried back and forth from the kitchen. We waited until she has settled down and sat on her chair and all of us said: Dad, Mom ... please eat. She took the first bite and we followed.

I know physically, Papa's not around; however we can still sense his presence during dinner and each of us scooped a piece of  his favorite dishes and put it into the bowl and plate. Nevertheless, we chatted and ate... Seemed like everything's back to normal. I felt happy then... More so if we can have this during our dinner time when ever we come back to our parent's home. Be it for a festival or celebration, This should be the way....

The night was cloudy and breezy... as I stood outside of the porch and try to gaze at the Moon, I had a feeling that PapaMerv was standing beside me... Also gazing at the moon and I felt his warmth and his love...  The night before, MommaMerv dreamt of PapaMerv, he was feeding her some food, She politely decline saying Papa should take the first bite, he smiled as mum recalled and he took some bite and pass the rest to her. Dad... happy mid autumn.

Eulogy

Posted by Merv on 9:37 PM
He ran the good race, and finally reached his destination… This little statement pretty sums up about Daddy.

On behalf of our family, we thank you for your kind presence, your love, care and concern. Today as we send off a father, a dear friend, a confidante, let me say a few words about him.

How do you describe someone who spoke less but full of action? Generosity, stubbornness, kindness, temperamental, jovial, stern. This is how we remember him, But above all, as a Father, he did more than any fathers in the world could ever give to his children. He is one who truly gave. Yes, he was also stubborn. He does not admit defeat or failure easily. His heart is kind and he understands the meaning of life. Feisty as the tempest, his temper can be magnanimous but only to bring us back to the right path should we stray away. Jovial when he knows we’re down and uncertain, he gave us assurance and security during the turbulent times. Stern as he was, it’s because he taught us the way of the world and know who are our friends and enemies.

Dad, We love you very much, though we may not show it, but you know us very well. You paved the way for us so we can have a head start and now, be assured we will walk the other half of the road with your words of wisdom, your love, your tenacity and courage Now, as we walk with you on your final departure, we will not forget the sacrifices you have made for us.
Farewell but not goodbye…

Farewell... Papa.

Posted by Merv on 1:40 AM
Today, PapaMerv was the last man standing, in our bid to fight hepatoma. We were fighting along with him and it was time his body could not withstand the onslaught of the assault. As I sat in the ambulance this afternoon, looking at my Daddy; gasping for breath. I held his hands and comforted him,  Soon... dad, we're going home.

The bed was prepared for him. All's in place. When the blaring siren stops, We arrived home. I whispered near his ear; Dad, we're home. We're gonna take you back in and rest...
His breath was getting shorter... the gasping heavier... In the end, he made it to his death bed and we all gathered around him to give our last words and wish him a good departure...

I begin to chant, to aid my Daddy to focus on the mantra... I saw tears trickling from his closed eyes, I assured him, Do not worry... Follow the Buddha.. he is here to guide you. Go on... And I focused more on chanting and chanting to help my Dad focus his mind on the words. And soon, his legs and hands become cold.... his pulse is getting weak... His last breathe was at 4.45pm... and the pulse grew weaker and weaker... at it stopped.. at 5.05 pm, Saturday; PapaMerv took the last dance and the curtain rolled down... What an outstanding performance! He was a man who never give up easily... He led a good life and he did his best to provide us...

As write this Papa, I want you to know I'm very thankful to have such a wonderful Father like you. You gave all you can as a provider and the man of the house. I do regret that we didn't talked more but I loved you and respected you... there are times you and I, we disagree over issues about my life but I still love you for who you are and I know you're always worried that I may do well in my life.. Be assured Daddy.... I will. I promise...

So Daddy, may you be well and happy where-ever you are, Don't worry about Mum and us. We'll take care of her and we will stay strong as a family...

Farewell Dada...

Always your little son,
Merv

090909 - I kena burned!

Posted by Merv on 11:33 PM
My car had an accident last wednesday... the day that was 09-09-09... Somehow, when I woke up that morning, I had a bad premonition. Decided to do some calculation during the evening and this is what I found:

The heavenly stem and earth branch day was DING SI (Fire/ Snake), I was born in the year of REN ZI (Water/ Rat) The hour was snake too. I was driving my Xiao Hong (Red). The fire element was strong and it sort of clashed with my birth chart element. . . This was something that was unavoidable and I was fortunate to come out of this without getting hurt. I could have been involved in a very serious accident and I could have been injured, I was very lucky...

Well, he's in the work shop now and I'm using another car... thanks to MommaMerv...

The long hiatus...

Posted by Merv on 11:35 PM
I must apologize for this very long hiatus, you see; I've been very busy with my endeavors:

1. Running my business
2. Spending time with my family - especially my Dad
3. House chores - yes.. It's like a pig sty for these few weeks
4. Entertaining relatives that dropped by from down under

Yesterday, received sad news that Malaysia's talented film maker, Yasmin Ahmad passed on. It is a great loss, I shall missed her festivity advertisement which she directed for Petronas, the messages of Unity and Love transcending race, color, religion. Thank you, Yasmin for your vision and stories.

On other matters, things are doing well in my business and I'm excited that we're expanding, getting new staff this August... :D

Will be doing short blogs instead of long ones... just short snippets of what had happened the past week..
It's time for bed.. and Good night to all of you... and Good Day where ever you are...

He ain't heavy... he's my Dada....

Posted by Merv on 8:09 AM

When I was a young kid, I could almost remember, how at about half past six evening, I will wait with anxiousness. And my tiny heart will race along with my rapid pacing while I wait and wait, and then the honk of the horn and My brothers and I will start screaming frenzy! "Dad's home! Dad's home!"...

Yeah, I was a very contented child. Just gets so excited seeing my old man comes home, he'll stop the car out side of the porch and call us, then we'd run to him and he'll take us for a drive and later we find ourselves in Taman Jaya, that old big park that's an icon for this side of PJ. Taman Jaya brings lots of good childhood memories. Each time I take the LRT to KL, Sometimes I just stare at the park... reminiscing my happy past...

Dad would take us back and just in the nick of time for dinner with Mum. Outings are something me and my siblings look forward to during weekends when we were young. A trip to Jaya Supermarket (the old one of course), to KFC, to Asia Jaya was like going to Pavilion and KLCC Suria...

I realized I had a good childhood. Despite the once a while beating and caning from my parents, I understood that they loved us, provided for us, and cared for us. Then came the teenage years where there was a bit of a gap between my Dad and I... and it stayed there ever since. So, now having being given the opportunity to take care of my Dad, I got to know him again..., yes I am ashamed of it but I hope it's not too late to know my Dad for who he is, a caring, big man with a big heart...

This Father's day My dad was in the hospital, Although we couldn't take him or Mum to have dinner, But I spent my time with him, And it was this moment, that I feel I connected back with my Dad... so I am very grateful and thankful that this Father's Day was different and extraordinary...

Thank you Dad...

Life is really fleeting...

Posted by Merv on 10:45 AM
This morning.... I spent time with my dad and mum. My dad looked weak and I can see in the span of 5 months, his health has turned bad. Although his body is weak, his spirit is strong. In my heart, I felt a tremendous pain and guilt, again. Not knowing what I can do to ease my old man's suffering. Three doctors observed my Dad when he was admitted to Pantai Medical Centre last week. After probing and inserting things into his tummy and conducting blood and urine test, His tumor has become malignant. and The big tummy is the side effect of fluids coming out of his liver. His cirrhotic liver is getting serious. He is going to the hospital for another review. The specialist are debating on how to kill the tumor cells without further damaging his weakened liver.

And another sad news came, a good friend of mine, went to see his GP this morning after he got a call, he went for a second HIV test screen and his result was positive. At this point, Life has taught me another powerful lesson. Indeed, if we do not take full responsibility of our own actions, we bear our own results. He called me right after his consultation with the doc. Sounding stunned and a bit down, I consoled him, then again; I thought to myself, who am I to dispense advice on what to do and what not to do? I don't even know how to ease my old man's suffering! I just smiled to myself.

At this point, I would say, I am learning a bit more about life. You see unfortunate events happening everywhere around the globe via TV and you thought to yourself, 'oh how sad, how pitiful'... then, but you don't feel it as you're not the one experiencing it. Now, I know how it feels...

Life is an interesting Teacher.

A change....

Posted by Merv on 11:43 PM
My business is slowly picking up... but at the same time, discovered my dad has hepatoma... (liver cancer)... at which stage, it's early but the chances are of recovering is slim... he is a Hep B carrier, so his liver is weak and is a cirrhotic liver. A lot of changes happened recently. Due to this, I get up earlier to see my dad for breakfast, spend as much time as I can, at the same time manage 2 business...

I ain't complaining... I know it's tiring and it will burn me one day, but I try to sort my time so I can have time for everything...

Can I adapt to this change? Hmm I hope so.

A short post tonight.. as I feel I have a lot of things to oversee and do and I hope I'm not too late... my apologies to my readers... for a long hiatus...

Will update more this weekend...
