Shin Kushiya - Japanese grill @ Vivocity

My good friend, CT took me to Vivocity on tuesday night for dinner. He said this is the place to be and to be seen as Orchard has lost its glitter and anybody who's a somebody will be here to dine, shop and club. I have to say it's been a while since I was down at Lion City, so this new mall is very impressive. We chose Shin Kushiya as he has somehow forgotten the location of another Japanese restaurant which he frequents and he thought it was good.

The setup for Shin is simple and modern. With dark interior and dark burgundy curtains. A marriage of industrial and zen. Their speciality is japanese grill or Kushiyaki, skewered meat grilled by using Bi-Cho charcoals. Bincho charcoals are used by all Japanese Kushiyaki restaurants in Tokyo. It's special property enable it to burn without a lot of smoke yet imparts a distinct 'smoky' flavor to the grilled meat. It is also able to retain heat upt to 1,200 degrees celcius to retain the grilled meat. Crispy on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside.

We had some beef, pork, lamb and chicken ad salmon kushiyaki. And we had a nice Horenso Sarada (Jap for salad) which consist of Japanese spinach, garlic chips and bacon bits (pork) with soy dressing.

We also ordered a Tosei Saba yaki, Wafu steak, and desserts were: Fresh coconut konnyaku and Kuro Goma, Black sesame ice-cream with home-made black sesame cream topped with chocolate wafer and strawberries. The Kuro Goma was excellent! the Coconut konnyaku was so-so.
